weather warning for snow across Britain has been upgraded from yellow to amber after forecasters predicted long travel delays, power cuts, and disruption to rural areas.

The Met Office increased its heavy snow warning on Friday in preparation for snowfall from the early hours of Saturday.Forecasters said at least 1-3cm is expected fairly widely across the UK, with 5-10cm in some places, and between 300-400m in the Scottish mountains.

Drivers have been urged to take precaution on the roads to prevent the likelihood of vehicles and passengers becoming stranded.
