mirror.co.ukLockdown rule-breakers who attend house parties will be slapped with a new £800 fine on a first offence from next week. Home Secretary Priti Patel tonight announced the steep new penalty in England specifically aimed at parties of 16 or more people.
She said the fine - which like others will double on repeat offences, up to a cap of £6,400 - will begin next week. It is four times the current £200 fine for most Covid breaches - though less than the £10,000 fine for organising parties of more than 30 people. "The science is clear - such irresponsible behaviour poses a significant threat to public health," Ms Patel told a Downing Street press conference after 94,380 UK deaths - up 1,290 since yesterday.
