Met Office has issued a snow and ice warning, lasting from 10pm-11.59pm on Monday, February 1, and extending from the Midlands to northern Scotland.
It has warned of delays of roads and “stranding” of some vehicles – especially on higher routes.Though temperatures are expected to rise on Monday night, a severe frost could see the mercury fall to -11C in the Scottish Highlands.
The wintry weather is expected to continue into this week, with further warnings ahead. An amber alert for snow is in force in the Midlands from 3am on Tuesday, February 2, until 1pm, covering cities like Sheffield, Bradford and Blackburn.
Rural communities could become “cut off” and power cuts “are likely”, according to the Met Office. The body’s Chief Meteorologist.
