The father and stepmother of an 11-year-old boy who was found "severely malnourished" in a storage bin have been charged. Roman Lopez was reported missing on 11 January last year and was found by police in the basement of his home the next day.
Although an autopsy didn't show any obvious trauma, Placerville police said he was found to be "severely malnourished and dehydrated" at the time of his death.
More than a year on, the force has charged Roman's biological father Jordan Piper, 36, and his stepmother Lindsey Piper, 38, with whom the boy was living at the time of his death along with another seven kids aged up to 17 years old.
