Jack Antonoff has revealed the star-studded soundtrack of the forthcoming TV show ‘The New Look’.The Bleachers frontman has announced he is the producer behind Apple TV’s upcoming series, which will span 10 episodes. The soundtrack will be the first release from Antonoff’s new label Shadow of the City, which is an imprint of Dirty Hit.Now, Antonoff has unveiled all the guests on the soundtrack, which will consist of covers of early to mid-twentieth-century songs. Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Beabadoobee, Nick Cave and Perfume Genius will all make an appearance.The soundtrack’s first single, ‘White Cliffs of Dover’ by Florence + The Machine, will be released on January 31.

Florence + The Machine‘s Florence Welch has revealed that she has undergone “emergency surgery” that “saved my life”.The band had to cancel a pair of recent shows at the Zurich Open Air and Rock en Seine festivals “on medical advice,” and Welch has now explained the reasons to fans on Instagram.“I’m so sorry that I had to cancel the last couple of shows,” she wrote, explaining that it is unrelated to a broken foot that caused the postponement of a UK tour at the turn of the year.“My feet are fine, I had to have emergency surgery for reasons I don’t really feel strong enough to go into yet but it saved my life.”Welch went on to add that she will go ahead with the final two shows of the band’s world tour behind 2022 album ‘Dance Fever’ in Lisbon and Malaga next week (September 1-2).“Suffice to say I wish the songs were less accurate in their predictions,” she added. “But creativity is a way of coping, mythology is way of making sense.

The sales of cassettes, however, remain much lower than those of vinyl records.The total number of cassette tape sales has risen from 3,823 in 2012 to more than 195,000 in 2022.It is said that the spike has been driven by recent releases from major acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Harry Styles and Florence + the Machine.Per the BPI, all 20 of last year’s biggest-selling cassettes were released in 2022.Mark Burgess, Founder of Flashback Records in north London, told Sky News that cassette sales had “shot up” at his shop post-pandemic.He said the old-school format appealed to younger music fans in particular due to its “collectability”.“Because cassettes are a smaller format, it’s easier to set up a collection,” he explained.

BBC‘s regional services in England will stage a 24 hour strike next month over plans to merge some local radio shows including BBC Introducing.The walkout is set to take place at 11am on March 15, on the same day as the Budget, after 83 per cent of members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) voted in favour of the move.A spokesperson said they were “disappointed at the outcome of the ballot”, reports BBC News but NUJ General Secretary Michelle Stanistreet said its members had shown “their determination not to stand by and see local radio output dismantled”.It comes after the BBC has announced plans for its 39 local stations to share more shows in afternoons, evenings and at weekends.Under the proposals, the stations would keep their own weekday morning programmes but then share 20 afternoon weekday shows, 10 shows after 6pm and a single all-England programme after 10pm. Weekend output will also be affected.The corporation’s 39 BBC Introducing shows, a scheme to support up-and-coming musical talent, will also be cut to 20 but with extra timeslots to ensure a broad range of music can still be played.

Florence + The Machine frontwoman Florence Welch’s forthcoming The Great Gatsby musical adaptation is set to premiere on Broadway next year.Entitled Gatsby, the show will premiere at Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, according to Rolling Stone.Welch is collaborating with producer Thomas Bartlett, who records music as Doveman. Florence Welch has spoken out about her sobriety.The Florence + The Machine singer, who has been sober for eight years, reflected on her current life without alcohol in a new interview on the Spotify podcast The Way We Are With Munroe Bergdorf.“In terms of navigating being in the public eye, I think sobriety is the best thing I ever did,” she explained.“It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I had a problem with drinking because I was one of those drinkers where it was all or nothing. If I enjoy my drinking, I can’t control it and if I control my drinking, I don’t enjoy it.”Welch went on to say that around the time of the release of her 2011 album ‘Ceremonials’ was the point that her relationship with alcohol needed controlling.“It was like the glamour and the grandeur of ‘Ceremonials’ that created this shield of how chaotic it was behind the scenes which is why I think that record is so dark,” she said.Welch added: “Sobriety was really lonely.
