The UK has quit the Erasmus student exchange programme after Brexit, complaining it is too “expensive”. Universities UK slammed the “disappointing” decision tonight after its disappearance emerged in the details of a trade deal.
EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier said the decision to scrap Erasmus in Britain was one of his only two regrets. And Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon slammed the act of "cultural vandalism".
The scheme allows UK university students to study abroad in one of 32 participating nations. Some can get a “large contribution” to their tuition fees back in the UK as well as a grant of up to €350 a month.
