Turkey's first case of coronavirus has been confirmed, after weeks of avoiding the infection. The popular holiday destination was one of the small number of countries that had managed to keep the spread of the virus at bay.
But officials have now announced that a male citizen tested positive last night (March 10). Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said the patient is a Turkish national who had recently returned from Europe.
Speaking during a televised statement on Wednesday he said: "The test of a patient suspected of carrying the coronavirus returned positive. "All of his family members and those who came into contact with him are under surveillance." He added that his "general condition is good".
