Coronavirus PPE fiasco as gowns the RAF flew from Turkey are unusable

The government is embroiled in a PPE fiasco after a shipment of medical gowns from Turkey turned out to be unusable. The RAF flew in the medical kit two weeks ago after several delays, a row about who supplied them, and disputed figures on how many actually turned up.

Now the Daily Telegraph has confirmed the gowns are impounded in a warehouse near Heathrow Airport because they don't meet the NHS's standards.

Cabinet minister Brandon Lewis admitted they turned out "not be of the quality that we feel is good enough for our frontline staff".

He refused to say how much the failed order cost. He told Sky News: "If something isn't right, if we're not even sure about it then I think it is better to be safe and not use that product." Cabinet
