A delivery of 3,800 masks are arriving for council carers as fears emerge that staff don’t have proper gear to protect against coronavirus.

South Ayrshire Council said it had problems getting hold of protective equipment and masks are only to be worn when people show symptoms in line with guidance.

It said a new national distribution system will make sure there is enough kit going forward. Home care staff look after the elderly who are very vulnerable to Covid-19 among others.

A worried son got in touch with the LDRS saying carers helping his mum at home were scared about contracting and spreading the virus.
