Slicing a tee-shot into deep rough, sand, or even water is hardly a new phenomenon for any pro or amateur golfer - but American Hayden Buckley was left facing a unique lie during the second round of the WM Phoenix Open.

Buckley, 25, has two professional tournament wins to his name and qualified for the 2021 US Open, but his latest display brought a whole new meaning to the term 'rubbish.'Buckley was playing the 461-yard par four 18th hole at the TPC Scottsdale course, alongside his more esteemed playing partners Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler. The Tennessee man was five over par at the time and already out of contention to make the cut as he lay down in 122nd place, and his cause wasn't helped by his drive failing to find the fairway. As he wondered off track in search of his ball however, he discovered that it hadn't landed in light rough, but in a recycling bin positioned to allow spectators to get rid of their food packaging and drink cartons. An official informed Hayden that he did not have to retrieve the ball, but after rummaging through the trash, he did so anyway to cheers from the crowd. He wasn't able to entertain the galleries further with a miraculous escape as he finished off his tournament with a bogey five, meaning he headed to the clubhouse at six over par and his tournament over before the weekend. However, Buckley could at least be assured that he provided one of the most memorable moments of the event in Arizona, with golf fan @Schwang17 posting pictures of the amusing sequence of events on Twitter. After two rounds, it is Buckley's compatriot Sahith Theegala who leads the way having produced a stunning second round 64, taking his overall total to 12 under par.Ominously for Theegala though, former world no 1.
