direct to your inboxIt is a glorious picture of the innocence of childhood.A lad, dizzy with excitement, at the fairground.The boy is Ian Munro, sat on a kiddies' ride.It was autumn 1964 and he was one of hundreds of people who rolled up to Silcock's Fair which had pitched in Legh Street, Patricroft, Eccles.The image was taken by George Shepherd who, with his new wife, June, had walked over from their then home in nearby Aldred Street.George also captured lovers in a clinch on the Noah's Ark ride; the shooting range; the dodgems; and the hook a duck game.

There is one of June playing the slot machines.It was an era when mods and rockers - who would fight on Brighton beach that year - mingled with mums, dads, and children to enjoy the fun on.
