Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Sony’s Crunchyroll is gearing up to launch a role-playing game based on the popular “Overlord” anime series and film franchise — which centers on a guy who gets trapped in a massively multiplayer online RPG. Crunchyroll teamed with Tokyo-based mobile game publisher A Plus Japan for the global English-language release of “Lord of Nazarick,” a turn-based RPG based on “Overlord” to be released this fall for Android and iOS devices. The game will let “Overlord” fans “catch up or relive the anime currently streaming on Crunchyroll with a fresh perspective,” the company said.

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer Kit Harington has returned home to Westeros for the the launch of new RPG mobile game “Game of Thrones: Legends.” Harington shows up in the “Game of Thrones: Legends” trailer, which dropped in connection with the game’s launch Thursday, playin himself as he becomes deeply immersed in the mobile game and starts seeing White Walker-esque blue eyes appear in the people around him while he plays. The ad, which will stream on Max ahead of new episodes of “House of the Dragon,” end with Harington having a visceral reaction to a fan playing the game nearby, who outplays him and drops the iconic line, “You know nothing Jon Snow.” Other features in the game include: In “Game of Thrones: Legends,” players build and lead their own Westeros house, honing their tactics and skill as they strategically assemble a team of champions, equip weapons, and gear, and face formidable foes from the “Game of Thrones” universe, per Zynga‘s description for the new mobile title.

Movie” powered up to over $1.3 billion at the global box office, it’s Princess Peach’s turn to take the spotlight in a brand new video game coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2024. The gaming giant made the announcement during their June 21 Nintendo Direct, debuting a 26-second teaser trailer. In the clip, Peach frolicks around a version of the Mushroom Kingdom that looks like a theater production. From the available footage, the game appears to be a 2.5-dimension side-scroller. She also appears to have a star-shaped companion who she can employ to knock out enemies. Plot details, or a title, for the game have yet to be announced.

Josh Broadwell If you’re looking for a breathtaking blockbuster, Final Fantasy XVI isn’t it. Square Enix’s latest entry in the long-running RPG series is often messy, oddly paced and frustratingly restrictive in its vision. More frequently, though, it’s subtly brilliant, with a bold and ambitious narrative, nuanced character development and some of the genre’s best localization and voice work. It’s a significant departure for the series and one that pays off, despite a few missteps along the way. First, though, you have to get through the prologue, and Final Fantasy XVI makes a poor first impression in most of that. After a brief battle scene, it begins in the Duchy of Rosaria, a location that could’ve come from “Game of Thrones,” T.H. White’s “The Once and Future King,” or any medieval fantasy. There’s a wise ruler, his cruel wife who prefers one of their sons over another, a band of brash and loyal knights, and a smattering of happy peasants who serve them all. 

Amazon Games has announced they are working on a new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Ethan Shanfeld An animated television series based on the digital collectible RPG game Momoguro is in development from Baobab Studios. The independent interactive animation studio is working on the series in collaboration with Momoguro directors Martin Allias and Nico Casavecchia. While Baobab has not yet decided on a distributor, the Emmy-winning studio recently announced two upcoming projects with Disney+. With the streamer, Baobab is developing an animated anthology series titled “The Witchverse,” based on the short VR film “Baba Yaga” written by Eric Darnell, and a feline workplace comedy series called “Intercats,” created by Darnell and Pamela Ribon.

Army of the Dead will return with a sequel – but that  he paused on the idea due to his busy schedule.In 2021, Snyder signed on for a follow-up film with Netflix as part of their two-year-first-look deal – but it won’t begin filming until his latest project Rebel Moon is completed.Snyder is currently working on an epic sci-fi film Rebel Moon, which he said needs most of his attention because it’s not “a small-time commitment”. The movie is set to arrive on Netflix this December and will tell the story of a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy” making a stand against “the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius.”During an interview with The Nerd Queens, the director explained why there is a delay in the Army of the Dead 2.

HoYoverse, the Shanghai-based game developer behind “Genshin Impact,” announced a partnership with Japanese animation studio Ufotable to develop an anime based on the RPG. It also released a three-minute “concept trailer” in announcing the project (watch below). “Let’s step into this vast magical world of adventure together!” the games company tweeted Friday. “The long-term collaboration project between Genshin Impact and ufotable has begun.” The companies did not reveal an anticipated release date for the anime series, nor does the trailer provide firm clues as to what the show’s plot may center on.

Monster Hunter is what I call, in the best possible way, a Ronseal game – the RPG does exactly what it says on the tin. Since its global breakthrough with 2018’s World, Capcom has done even better with cutting down the faff and getting players straight into the main event, while Monster Hunter Rise streamlined it into an almost arcadey variant where some hunts could be over in less than ten minutes despite still being allotted the maximum 50 minutes typical in the series.
