Crunchyroll to Release RPG ‘Lord of Nazarick’ Based on ‘Overlord’ Anime Franchise

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Sony’s Crunchyroll is gearing up to launch a role-playing game based on the popular “Overlord” anime series and film franchise — which centers on a guy who gets trapped in a massively multiplayer online RPG.

Crunchyroll teamed with Tokyo-based mobile game publisher A Plus Japan for the global English-language release of “Lord of Nazarick,” a turn-based RPG based on “Overlord” to be released this fall for Android and iOS devices.

The game will let “Overlord” fans “catch up or relive the anime currently streaming on Crunchyroll with a fresh perspective,” the company said. (Watch the trailer below.) No specific release date was announced for the game but Crunchyroll said it will come out around the Nov.

8 theatrical premiere of “Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom” in the U.S. and Canada. The film is being distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment in North America, EMEA and Latin America. “Lord of Nazarick” promises exclusive perks for Crunchyroll subscribers, including in-game currency, a battle pass, and access to activations across Crunchyroll theatrical and ecommerce experiences.
