A sword-wielding thug who terrorised women for decades has died behind bars. Alec Cowie was branded a “violent and controlling individual” by detectives when he was found guilty of a catalogue of assaults on females in Aberdeenshire spanning a 20 year period.
He had previously been locked up for a three-hour siege which saw him threaten police with a 3ft-sword after a row with a neighbour over a football.
Prison chiefs have now confirmed the 51-year-old died at HMP Grampian last week while on recall to custody and awaiting trial on fresh allegations.
Cowie was originally jailed for six years in 2008 for the siege which saw him hold riot police at bay at his home in Sandhaven, Aberdeenshire, after a football was kicked over a garden fence.P
