Student nurses working on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis have raised concerns over the lack of protective gear for less senior staff.
A student nurse, on a placement at Royal Oldham Hospital, said only surgeons, anesthetists, senior doctors and A&E staff have been provided with FFP3 masks.
An FFP3 mask is specially fitted to the user's face so no contagious droplets can enter their airways. However, due to a national shortage, nurses and students on placement are reportedly having to do without or wear a standard mask, which is thought to be less effective.
Many of the student nurses said they live with grandparents or parents in the vulnerable category and are concerned they risk passing on the virus to them.
