A war veteran's plans for his landmark 100th birthday were shattered to due the coronavirus outbreak forcing him to spend it home alone with his wife.
Jack Ransom, 99, was gutted his birthday bash for 80 of his friends and family was cancelled amid the pandemic. He was desperate to celebrate reaching the milestone after an astonishing life which included surviving the infamous Burmese Railway of Death as a prisoner of war.
He avoided contracting cholera, dengue fever and malaria - but now coronavirus has forced him to shelve plans for his 100th birthday.
Jack had planned to wear a special outfit including tartan trousers, and to have a cake decorated with his face on it.On the guest list were local MP, Patricia Gibson, as well as MSP
