The pupils, from North Walkden Primary, were out walking with mum Lyndsey Chidgey on Sunday, April 18, when they made the surprising find.
They were playing together in Ashtons Field, off Cleggs Lane, Little Hulton, when one of them spotted a carrier bag partially buried under the grass.
When they dug it up they discovered the vest, which appeared to have been damaged before being stuffed into the bag and buried in a hole.
