Rob Cross thought he was home and dry against Gerwyn Price at the weekend - only to be told he had miscalculated the number of legs required to win the game.

To make matters worse, he then went on to lose the tie after being 6-2 up. Cross made the astonishing and hilarious error during the semi-final of Players Championship event seven in Niedernhausen, Germany, on Saturday.Voltage had raced into a 5-2 lead in the best of 13 match and thought he had made it through to the final after taking out 89 in the eighth leg to make it 6-2.But as he turned to commiserate Price, he quickly realised that he still needed to win one more leg to make it through to the final.

Both players shared a joke as the Welshman returned to the oche with a wry smile on his face. Despite his counting error, Cross, who at this stage held a four-leg advantage, might reasonably have expected to finish Price off.

But remarkably, Voltage somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory after missing 12 match darts. Ever the opportunist, Price snuck in and won five legs on the bounce to book his place in the final and leave Cross counting the cost of his premature celebrations.
