A little over a month since his death, the Recording Academy has released a new recording of John Prine's “Angel From Montgomery." The proceeds of the late singer's song will support the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. Prine, one of the most influential artists in folk and country music, died in April from complications associated with the coronavirus.

A number of Recording Academy elected officials have recorded John Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery” as a fundraiser to benefit the organization’s MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund.The fund was created to financially help people in the music industry affected by the pandemic due to the cancellation of work opportunities. To date, the fund has raised nearly $15 million in assistance, but a few weeks ago, it stopped taking new applications until it could replenish its coffers after distributing its initial funds.Prine, a 2020 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, died April 7 from complications from COVID-19.
