A group of locals in Ayrshire are looking to raise £5000 to put towards a statue of Rangers legend Johnny Hubbard. The South African born forward passed away in 2018 at the age of 87 and spent 10 years playing for Rangers from 1949-1959.He was the first African to play in European competition and is known as the Penalty King among Rangers supporters for his incredible record of 65 goals from 68 spot kicks for the club.
He also remains the last Rangers player to score a league hat-trick against Celtic, way back in 1955 when he netted a treble - including one from the spot - in a 4-1 win.
Hubbard also played for Ayr United at the end of his career before settling in Ayrshire for the rest of his life where he became a well known figure.
