Queen's funeral date announced after King Charles confirms new Bank Holiday

READ MORE: Queen's final moments ‘with Charles and Anne at her bedside’ at BalmoralThe Queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall for "four clear days", from September 14 to allow members of the public to pay their respects.The Queen’s coffin – which is lying in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle – will be taken by road to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Sunday (September 11), on a six-hour journey by hearse.A slow procession will take her from Buckingham Palace to Westminster, passing by members of the public while broadcasters beam images to people all over the world.

In 2002 more than 200,000 people queued up to view the Queen Mother's coffin when she was lying in wait. Inside Westminster Abbey, the Queen's coffin will be draped in the Royal Standard and topped with the Imperial State Crown, orb and sceptre.The funeral itself will take place inside the Abbey, where the Queen married Prince Philip in 1947 and was coronated in 1953.

The Royal Family will be joined by senior UK politicians and leaders from all over the world for the service. Following the funeral at Westminster, the Queen's coffin will be taken in a procession to St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle for a committal service.
