Queen of the South chairman Billy Hewitson reckons the Scottish Government would need to underwrite the football season to allow the new campaign to begin on time behind closed doors.Without a guarantee in place, the Doonhamers chief says clubs like Queens would be committing “financial suicide” by returning without fans.

The Dumfries club avoided relegation from the Championship by the skin of their teeth and were just two points above bottom placed Partick Thistle having played a game more when the coronavirus crisis brought football to a halt.
