PSG were reportedly hoping Mauricio Pochettino would be appointed Manchester United manager so that the Ligue 1 giants would avoid having to fork out a payoff fee.The Argentine boss, 50, will now walk away from the Parc Des Princes with a multi-million-pound leaving bonus after the Parisian outfit decided his services were no longer required.
PSG romped home to the Ligue 1 title during the 2021/22 campaign but a shock Champions League exit to eventual winners Real Madrid is believed to be the reason for Pochettino's dismissal.
The former Tottenham boss was heavily linked with a return to the Premier League in November following the sacking of Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the Red Devils instead opted for Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis.
Though Pochettino was overlooked for the Old Trafford hot seat, the Daily Mail claim that PSG chiefs were secretly hoping United would make a formal approach for the 50-year-old.
