A dedicated police officer and a loving dad of three has been left paralysed after he was kicked in the back by a drunk woman while on duty.

PC Darren Triggs of Sussex Police was attacked while driving a drunk woman to the police station. The 36-year-old did not immediately seek medical attention because he didn't think the injury was serious but four days later a "pain in his chest" emerged.

He said he first thought he had "trapped a nerve" and later suspected a heart attack. Darren’s devoted wife Rosie said the couple were in "complete shock" when doctors rushed him in for emergency surgery after discovering a blood clot on his spine.
