police officer who "would light up the room" has been beaten to death while off duty in Canada. Constable Allan Young, 55, was attacked in Nelson, British Columbia last week and spent the last few days on life support, before dying on Tuesday evening.

He had been "intervening in a disturbance" while off the clock and confronted a man in downtown Baker Street late last Thursday night, local police said. "It appears that one male was causing a disturbance in the roadway when the victim approached him and a physical altercation ensued," the Nelson Police Department said.Young was attacked and severely beaten, sustaining injuries that ultimately proved fatal.A 26-year-old man was arrested after the attack and is now facing charges, and has not.
