But it’s a gift that comes with strings, ropes even, the author seems to be warning us: There’s burden attached to memory, and pain, and, above all, responsibility – duty, even – that accompanies every yellowed snapshot in an old family album and every fading face that once seemed fixed with such clarity.

The TV-heavy cast of this excellent revival directed by the great Patrick Marber (whose 2020 Leopoldstadt remains one of the 21st Century’s great Broadway achievements) seems to have absorbed the Mametspeak dialect once seldom heard outside the walls of the Atlantic Theater Company downtown.

The production will now run through Saturday, June 14, with previews beginning Monday, March 10 ahead of an official opening on Monday, March 31 at The Palace Theatre.

Patrick Marber, who recently won the Tony for Tom Stoppard’s World War II-set “Leopoldstadt,” is directing the show, which takes place in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Things become ruthless when they’re given the news that whoever sells the most wins a car and whoever sells the least is out of a job.
