A man who led the police on a 100mph chase through the one of the busiest streets in Manchester has been jailed - after evading justice for almost four years.

Craig Hoatson, 39, was spotted by officers driving dangerously along Ashton Old Road in a Ford Focus back in 2016. Police had to accelerate to 100mph to keep Hoatson in sight, Manchester Minshull Street heard.

The painter and decorator, from Droylsden, Tameside, sped through three sets of red traffic lights, one of which controlled a tramline.

Hoatson eventually turned off the main road into Lumb Lane, which has a 20mph limit and speed bumps. He drove at speeds of up to 70mph, narrowly avoiding people on the pavement.
