Virgil van Dijk has been hailed as the Premier League's greatest ever defender by four-time title winner Vincent Kompany. The Belgian, who would also be among the competition's elite centre-halves, locked horns with the likes of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand during his Manchester City days.
But he has cited the huge transformation seen on Anfield following Van Dijk's arrival in 2018. The Dutchman has proved to be the catalyst for Liverpool's steep upward trajectory and it is that impact which has impressed Kompany. "I would bring it back to Virgil van Dijk," the 34-year-old told SPORF. "It's a weird one because he hasn't been on the scene as long as these names we have mentioned: John Terry, Rio Ferdinand.
