The government had previously told people to wait for a message from their GP so the NHS did not get overwhelmed with people asking for the coronavirus vaccine.

But their messaging has now changed and elderly people are being asked to come forward if they are still waiting for the jab.

It comes as the government looks close to hitting its target of offering jabs to everyone in the top four priority groups by the middle of February.The NHS is aiming to vaccinate all those over 70, health and social care workers, care home residents, their carers and people deemed to be clinically extremely.
