A couple caught getting amorous under the stars at 2am on the coldest night in 26 years were given a stern dressing-down by police.

At 2am today officers came across the couple at West Country beauty spot Dartmoor, which was blanketed in snow as temperatures dropped to minus 22C last night following an "extreme freeze" - the lowest in more than two decades.

Police have warned that such public liaisons were in breach of lockdown laws. They issued a stern reminder about social distancing to couples looking to get close.

In a tweet, which has since been deleted, Tavistock Police say they caught the horny pair in a car in Yelverton, West Dartmoor, in breach of a number of Covid lockdown rules. Do you know the couple?
