For over 40 years, Northmoor Laundrette in Longsight has been a place where people can chat and catch up while washing their clothes.Despite being a staple part of the local community, the laundrette is now shutting down after bosses say it is no longer financially sustainable to keep running.In 2005, the business was taken over by the Northmoor Community Association (NCA) and transformed into a not-for-profit social enterprise and Manchester’s only Internet café laundrette.Situated on Northmoor Road, once referred to as ‘Shotgun Alley’, the social enterprise was a place where people could not only clean their clothes but could also get financial and career support too.Books, toys, computers and baby supplies were also available for people.
