Olympic athlete Olivia Podmore has tragically died at the age of 24 on Monday 9 August.The New Zealand cyclist, who competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, passed away hours after posting a message on her Instagram about the "struggle" of elite sport.
A New Zealand police spokesperson told Reuters police had attended a sudden death at a property in Waikato on New Zealand's upper North Island at 4pm New Zealand Standard Time (4:00 GMT).The cause of death is yet to be confirmed but, according to Reuters, a friend "raised concerns" about her mental health and sports officials said the cyclist had reached out to support services offered to athletes.
