Mars rover has confirmed the existence of an ancient lake which could harbour traces of life. Scientists who have analysed images from NASA's Perseverance rover confirm that the Jezero crater was once a lake about 3.7 billion years ago.
They believe that a major climate change event caused the lake to dry up, but the soil in the crater could still have traces of ancient alien life. While liquid water has not been found on the Martian surface, scientists believe that ancient lake beds like this are evidence that the planet once had a warm, wet climate.
