drug boss remains unknown amid a succession crisis in Mexico's criminal underworld.Vicente Zambada Niebla, better known as 'El Vicentillo', is the eldest son of feared Sinaloa Cartel leader Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada.
The 47-year-old joined the family business from a young age, quickly becoming a high ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel while it was led by Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán.In March 2009 he was arrested in Mexico City and extradited to the US on a plethora of drug trafficking-related charges.
In 2013 he struck a plea deal with US officials, agreeing to turn witness on El Chapo and eventually being handed a 15-year prison sentence when he had been facing life. His continued cooperation against El Chapo and his cronies, as well as his years spent behind bars before his sentence was announced in 2019, mean that he's now, theoretically, free.
Meanwhile this week Vicente's youngest brother - and the only one thought to still be criminally active - was involved in a serious car accident.
