A man brutally beat up his partner and left her to die while heading out to town to drink with another woman. Jonathan Campbell bathed Helen Bannister, 48, and left her on the sofa with a note apologising for what he had done.
The 37-year-old then headed to a corner shop to buy alcohol, Wales Online reports. The defendant did eventually call 999, saying his partner was "outers" on the sofa and requesting an ambulance.
Miss Bannister was subsequently air ifted to hospital but the mum-of-two could not be saved. Sending Campbell, a judge at Swansea Crown Court told him he had carried out a "drunken, ferocious, sustained, and merciless assault" on his partner of five years at their Swansea home on December 1 last year.
