The pair were walking in the grounds of the National Trust estate when they became trapped shortly before 3pm on Sunday, Cheshire Live reports.
But quick-thinking on their part by using the app What3words meant a search party was able to swiftly locate them in the 1,000 acre estate.
Five fire engines from Wilmslow, Lymm, Penketh, Widnes and Warrington were scrambled to the scene and the mum and child were pulled to safety.
