The MTV Movie and TV Awards is taking a break this year. The annual event will instead return in 2025 with a fresh, 'reimagined' format.A source told The Hollywood Reporter that the awards show is set for a comeback next year after a creative overhaul.

Last year's event was impacted by the Writers Guild of America strikes, leading to host Drew Barrymore withdrawing her participation in support of the writers.Instead of the usual live ceremony, the 2023 edition featured pre-taped segments, acceptance speeches, and highlights from the nominated shows and movies, with voiceovers announcing the categories, nominees, and winners.

Barrymore expressed her solidarity with the striking writers at the time, stating: "I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike. "Everything we celebrate and honour about movies and television is born out of their creation", as reported by Wales Online. She continued: "And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I'll be watching from home and hope you will join me.

I thank MTV, who has truly been some of the best partners I have ever worked with."The star professed her excitement for the event next year: "And I can't wait to be a part of this next year, when I can truly celebrate everything that MTV has created, which is a show that allows fans to choose who the awards go to and is truly inclusive."Recipients of top honours at the previous year's award presentation included HBO's The Last of Us, Scream VI, Top Gun: Maverick, and Wednesday.
