Having worked on shows including MOTDx and BBC Football Focus and having amassed over 400,000 followers on Instagram, presenter Emma Jones is a familiar face in the world of sport.

But while her career may be going from strength to strength, it hasn’t all been easy. Behind the scenes, Emma’s time in the spotlight has seen her receive sexist remarks and misogynistic messages online - something she’s keen to tackle with her increasingly popular 'DM hotline' videos which see her use funny skits to draw attention to the inappropriate messages she receives. “I used to occasionally screenshot some of the explicit messages that I received and put them on an Instagram story and the reaction showed me that there was a place to talk about this,” she told OK!. “I knew that people needed to hear about this because people's replies were more often than not ‘I didn’t realise that this was happening’.” By using humour to expose the creepy DMs she has in her inbox, the broadcaster hopes to not only get people talking, but to get something done about the issue at hand. “I'm taking back control and it also raises awareness of what I think is a very real problem that a lot of people endure every day online,” she said. “If there's a feeling that you're going to be disciplined in your actions, then a certain kind of person might think not to do it.

If you can do something and get away with it, you might be more inclined to behave in a different manner to how you’d act on the street.” For Emma, the response has largely been a positive one and not only does she hope to empower other women to call out the behaviour, but she hopes to show others that they are not alone if this is something they experience.
