Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli's controversial red card against Wolves. The 20-year-old forward received the first red card of his career after Michael Oliver showed him two yellows in quick succession.Martinelli pushed Daniel Podence as he took a throw-in and then barged into the back of Chiquinho moments later to commit a second bookable offence which saw him sent off.
Oliver's decision to give the Brazilian ace his marching orders sparked debate on social media - and BT Sport pundits Keown and Lescott couldn't agree on the matter either. "Lots has been made about sendings off - and you can see my anger," Keown began. "In my day we were getting players sent off but it galvanised the group.
That’s not necessarily happening with this Arsenal team. "But it did tonight. I thought the referee was pedantic with the decision, obviously Joleon will have a different opinion.
But I felt the Arsenal team responded: they put that anger into their play. They put it out there onto the pitch and got what the needed."Lescott did indeed have a different opinion to Keown, and although the former Wolves man felt the decision was slightly harsh, he ultimately agreed with the referee's call. "I think if you look at them as isolated incidents, I think they’re both yellow cards," Lescott said. "The first one is slightly harsh – if you assess it, he’s going to feel hard done by that he didn’t get the foul.
