The Batman was released to cinemas on March 4, and has been met with rave reviews after its opening weekend. The latest comic book adaptation sees Robert Pattinson take on the role of the caped crusader, alongside Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Danos as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin and Andi Serkis as Alfred.

The Batman fans have been taking to social media to share their reactions to the Scottish back-drop in the film. Even Robert Pattinson himself declared Glasgow the "unofficial" Gotham City ahead of the film's release.

Director Matt Reeves spoke with BBC Scotland's The Edit, and praised Glasgow for being the backdrop for Gotham. He also hinted that the franchise could make a return to the city as its a stellar filming location."One of the things that was really important, I wanted this to feel like a Gothic American city, but one that you'd never been to," the director said."And so the way to do that was to choose beautiful Gothic architecture and so we went to Glasgow and honestly it was so beautiful, I wish we could've filmed there more."I really think it's a very special Gotham, I mean what a special place."Viewers were buzzing to spot some iconic Glasgow landmarks in the film, like the Necropolis. One wrote: "It’s really fun seeing Glasgow masquerade as Gotham in #TheBatman however, it does make me want to see more investment in Scottish film and see work which is set in Glasgow, Edinburgh, all over this country. The cities have NYC character potential.

Show us where we are from."Another tweeted: "Someone behind me audibly gasped when they saw Glasgow in The Batman""every middle class culture writer talking about liverpool and glasgow in the batman: gotham looked DISGUSTING.
