Police found the bodies of Denis and Lynda Cooper on Sandown Road in Hazel Grove, Stockport, on Tuesday, August 25 last year.
Mrs Cooper, 72, was found dead on the floor in their bedroom upstairs. A pathologist said she had been 'subjected to an assault primarily directed to the head and neck area', the inquest held at Stockport Coroners' Court heard on Friday.
There was also evidence of possible strangulation and suffocation with a pillow, said Dr Charles Wilson in a statement read out.
