Police have asked people to "stay away from the area" after the "shocking incident". The attack happened on Great Ducie Street on Cheetham Hill at around 3pm. READ MORE: Large police presence on Strangeways back street after reports of 'stabbing' When emergency services arrived at the scene they found a 33-year-old man with a "serious stab wound".

He was taken to hospital with "life-threatening injuries", where he is currently being treated. A police cordon was put in place on Mary Street and a second on a footpath near New Bridge Street.
