SFA 's performance director. Mackay took the role in 2016, and stepped in as interim Scotland manager following the departure of Gordon Strachan in 2017.
The SFA have confirmed he has now left his role with immediate effect.His departure is believed to be part of SFA cost-cutting measures.
The governing body have a £4.5m black hole to fill as a result of the coronavirus crisis, and 18 jobs have been made redundant.Mackay said in a statement: “As a number of qualification campaigns draw to a close and after four years in post, it feels like the right time to step down from my role as performance director.
