Jon Hopkins has soundtracked and helped create an installation which can induce hallucinations.By combining flickering lights and electronic music, Hopkins, with the help of neuroscientists, philosophers and trance music producers, has formed an out of this world experience for users called ‘Dreamachine’.The new project uses ambient music from Hopkins as a soundtrack to the experience, which researchers called “stroboscopically induced visual hallucinations.”It sees visitors enter a room, lie-down and close their eyes before the experience begins.“The important thing about these practices is the loss of ego and the beginning of shared experience,” Hopkins told The Guardian. “These are alternatives to our problem-solving, scientific consciousness of reality.”The project will tour the UK this spring and more information can be found here.Earlier this month, Hopkins shared his first new music of 2022 – ‘A Gathering Of The Tribe’.The track is described as a sonic companion piece to Hopkins’ meditative 2021 album, ‘Music For Psychedelic Therapy’, which came out in November.Speaking about the new piece, which was originally written with the intention of scoring an animated short film featuring an excerpt from Charles Eisenstein’s book The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible, Hopkins said: “I haven’t done much scoring in the last few years, but occasionally something comes along that I fall in love with and feel like I just have to work on.

And there are classics of horror cinema that are notably compact, like the 1931 “Frankenstein,” with a twisty tumultuous plot that plays out in just 71 minutes, or the original 1974 version of “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” which achieved its slow-burn descent into the abyss in just 83 minutes.But the new, garishly crude, bluntly overlit, what-you-saw-is-what-you-get “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” which in case you’re counting is the eighth “Chainsaw” movie since the original (you‘d need a serious flowchart to diagram where the sequels meet the reboots meet the origin stories meet the what-the-hell-let’s-just-do-this-again whatevers), achieves a running time of 82 minutes only because there simply isn’t much to it.

Chris Willman Music WriterStubb’s, the intimate outdoor music venue in Austin that has been one of the principal locations for South by Southwest for the last quarter-century, has been purchased by Austin-based C3 Presents and its parent company Live Nation, the companies announced Tuesday.Although the acquisition was completed at the end of 2021, it was not revealed until this week.The entire Austin city block on which Stubb’s sits was part of the sale, according to Austin news reports. Stubb’s is unique among venues in offering a club-like experience that is outdoors, with a 2,500-capacity open performance space adjacent to an indoor BBQ restaurant, situated on the eastern end of Austin’s club district, not only creekside but practically adjacent to the I-35 freeway.
