Liverpool's director of football, Julian Ward, has reportedly flown to Portugal as the Reds continue to track Benfica star Darwin Nunez.Nunez has drawn suitors from across Europe, but Liverpool look to be in pole position to land the Uruguayan.
According to The Times, Ward is on the Iberian Peninsula to try and convince Benfica to drop their asking price to £60million.Benfica are currently asking for £68million plus add-ons, which could take the total fee up to £85million.
However, Ward is looking to drop that initial fee by £8million and for the add-ons to depend on results rather than appearances.Nunez is reportedly keen on a move to Anfield, and the fee with Benfica remains the one stumbling block.Manchester United have also registered interest in the striker, but the Red Devils can't offer Champions League football for Nunez.
