That extra weight has several costs, one of which is that it creates more work for the suspension. And here’s the thing: modern cars’ suspension already has plenty on its plate.

For one thing, it must compensate for the fact that modern car design relies on larger wheels and lower profile tyres to work.

These lower profile tyres introduce harshness that the suspension must be soft enough to iron out. Yet it must also deal with the extra weight and height of modern cars, the former especially in the case of EVs.
