A journalist broadcasting outside a makeshift coronavirus hospital used a thermal camera to check his temperature – and registered a fever.

Lorenzo Diaz was reporting from the IFEMA conference centre in Spanish capital Madrid. During the programme, he showed viewers the thermal cameras being used on those accessing the building.

The studio host, Isabel Jimenez, explained they were in place to detect anyone whose temperature registered above 37.5C – one of the first symptoms of coronavirus.

Diaz said: “I am going to go up to one of those cameras and when I am in front of it, you will see my body temperature.” He stepped in front of the camera and an alarm sounded – showing his body temperature was 38C.
