Jordan Henderson continues his recovery from injury and is expected back in training after this weekend's Community Shield. The Liverpool skipper has been out since he injured his knee during his side's 3-1 win at Brighton on July 8.
It was first thought that he may be facing a prolonged period on the sidelines but is now expected to be ready for the season opener.
Liverpool begin their season against newly promoted Leeds at Anfield but before that take on Arsenal in the season's curtain raiser.
And Henderson ramped up his rehabilitation during last week's training camp in the Austrian town of Saalfelden. The 30-year-old was a standout for Liverpool last term and was a favourite for many to be named the Player of the Year.
