JK Rowling must be able to write about whatever she wants after the latest transgender row. The Harry Potter writer, 55, was subjected to bitter attacks from activists following the publication of her latest novel, Troubled Blood.
The book, published under Rowling’s pseudonym Robert Galbraith, features a “transvestite serial killer”. William Boyd said it was ludicrous that writers should self-censor themselves amid a growing “cancel culture” and accusations of “cultural appropriation” when writing outside their own gender, sexual orientation or race.
