JK Rowling has revealed she is a survivor of sexual assault and told how she was attacked in her 20s. The Harry Potter author had been responding to criticism surrounding her comments about transgender issues.
She detailed reasons she felt she needed to talk about the issue – including her interest in “education and safeguarding” and “freedom of speech”.
The 54-year-old also spoke about the domestic abuse she suffered in her first marriage, to Portuguese Jorge Arantes. Rowling did not identify her alleged attacker but mentioned daughter Jessica Isabel, 26, who she had with him.
